Armchair Ministry
Why are we offering an armchair ministry? Many people have expressed an interest in Lutheran parish nursing and related medical missions in the global community. Some of the interested people have been unable to participate in the study tours for various reasons. The armchair ministry offers an opportunity to be personally involved without needing to leave home.
How does this work? Various options will be made available for people to learn about parish nursing or similar health ministries available in a developing country or experiencing a unique need that impacts the ability to maintain and/or expand their caring outreach. The LPNI board is asked to consider suggested candidates for including their parish nursing or health ministry. Selections are made based on need and the ability to maintain open communications with a representative of the ministry and the LPNI Board of Management. Ministries included in the armchair ministry are reviewed regularly and edited as needed.
The participant will be able to read reports with photos from the specific ministry on the website. The participant will be able to participate in two virtual meetings each year early June and early December to ask questions and maintain a relationship with the specific ministry. The participant will be able to contribute financially and by mailing in-kind devotions. The participant will provide some prayerful support and share the specific needs with others in a supportive group within their congregation or beyond.
Present ministries supported by armchair ministries include:
- Parish Nurse Ministry in Beit Jala (part of the Bethlehem governance) is led by Raeda Mansour, parish nurse.
- Parish Nurse Initiative in Ethiopia is facilitated by Tadelech Loha, masters prepared RN and deaconess.
- On site health clinic affiliated with Santa Cruz Lutheran Church in Amatitlán, Guatemala. Pastor and Physician Elry Aguirre and his wife, Liz Cisneros, a deaconess and a pharmacist provide the leadership.
